Arya College of Engineering And IT: Generations of mobile technology
Arya College of Engineering And IT: Generations of mobile technology

The communication technology of cellphone has evolved over the last 3 decades. Each phase has brought something exciting and new with several service and capabilities to the end user. There was a time when it was first invented by the Graham Bell. But due to increase in time, there is evolvement in technologies with the introduction of new ideas, methods and generations. Even, technology has reached to the point where we using wireless technological telephones and cordless mobile phones for the purpose of communication over long distances.

There are many countries which have adopted wireless cellular technologies based on GSM technique (Global System for Mobile communication). It includes different generation technology i.e. 1G, 2G, and even 3G and 4G. Different technologies are served accordingly.

First and Second Generation

It has evolved during 1980’s that uses analog transmissions. It only provides voice and subscribers with more exciting technologies of mobile. But the increasing use of cellular technology has cut the cord from the telephone by providing a good range of flexibility in staying connected to people. After few years, the communication industry shifts to 2G cellular networks that were entirely based on GSM standard. It also helps in the improvement of transmission quality, coverage for the telecoms and the subscribers along with the system capacity.

Third Generation

The term of third generation is used for the representation of quality of mobile telecommunication technology. It also adds multimedia facilities that also allow audio, video and graphic applications that help in the transmission over the good range of network. It is like the puberty of various standards of mobile network.

This system depends on the code division multiple accesses (CDMA) with radio technology that also allows the user to share both frequencies and time. It is limited to the orthogonal codes that avoid the user interface. The evolution of mobile networks has the advancement of mobile phone technology that has both hardware and software. But the advent of 3G network is considered as the new revolution in smart phone technology.

Most of the mobile operators in the country are supporting 3.75G that offers a speed of 21Mbps. These networks powered 3G phone that is capable of internet access on laptops and stand-alone desktops through 3G Moderns. There is an increase in the use of mobile technology as I today’s time, everybody is completely dependent on mobile phone for different purposes which further increase the demands of electrical engineers with the advent of more technologies.
